Bone Growth Diagram Image

Bone growth diagrams show the progression of development of the bone over a period of time. This visually displays where a bone accepts blood vessels or where cartilage develops. This type of skeletal diagram also may show a cross section of a bone and the different layers within a bone: bone marrow, osteoclasts, cancellous bone, and cortical bone.

How Bones Grow in Diameter While bones are increasing in length, they are also increasing in diameter; growth in diameter can continue even after longitudinal growth ceases. This growth by adding to the free surface of bone is called appositional growth.

In endochondral ossification, bone develops by replacing hyaline cartilage. Activity in the epiphyseal plate enables bones to grow in length (this is interstitial growth). Appositional growth allows bones to grow in diameter. Remodeling occurs as bone is resorbed and replaced by new bone.

Some skeletal diagrams show smaller sections of the human skeleton. These are usually a grouping, such as bones of the head, spine, feet and hands. There are many different types of skeletal diagrams.

Cancer is a multistage process that involves mutational changes and uncontrolled cell proliferation. Research has firmly established a causal and contributory role of oxidative stress and oxidative damage in cancer initiation and progression.

Oxidative stress in malignant melanoma enhances tumor necrosis factor-alpha secretion of tumor-associated macrophages that promote cancer cell invasion. Antioxid. Redox Signal. 19, 1337–1355.

Several studies have been found to be marked with increased ROS production which activates pro-tumorigenic signaling, enhances cell survival and proliferation and drives DNA damage and genetic instability. However, higher ROS levels have been found to promote anti-tumorigenic signaling by initiating oxidative stress-induced tumor cell death.
