Anatomy of the pharynx (throat). The pharynx is a hollow tube that starts behind the nose, goes down the neck, and ends at the top of the trachea and esophagus. The three parts of the pharynx are the nasopharynx, oropharynx, and hypopharynx.
The laryngopharynx is the lowest part and found behind the larynx, also known as the voice box. The pharynx as a whole is about 13 centimeters (cm) in length.
The longitudinal muscles contribute to widening the pharynx, elevating the larynx during the process of swallowing . The pharynx works with the other speech organs and muscles to produce initial sounds, while it also plays the role of a resonating organ.Pharynx Diagram Image Diagram - Chart - diagrams and charts with labels.
