Cricothyroid Muscle

The cricothyroid muscle is a small but very important muscle of the larynx. It connects the cricoid cartilage to the thyroid cartilage and works by tilting the thyroid cartilage forward. This movement stretches and tenses the vocal cords, which increases the pitch of the voice. It is the only intrinsic laryngeal muscle supplied by the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve. Because of this, injury to this nerve can affect a person’s ability to produce high-pitched sounds. Cricothyroid Muscle Diagram - Chart - diagrams and charts with labels.
