The posterior auricular vein drains blood from the scalp region behind the ear. It descends posterior to the auricle and joins with the posterior division of the retromandibular vein to form the external jugular vein. Along its course, it receives small tributaries from the scalp and auricular region. Though small, it is clinically relevant in surgical procedures involving the parotid gland and surrounding areas.
